The quarter final by G Moore

The big teams keep coming, and keep being sent away with their tails between their legs! Just one left now. We can dare to dream.

Pelsall are reckoned to be a strong bowling side, and so close to put us in when they won the toss. Tom Boyd bowled tight and their quick bowler Henderson picked up two wickets. His spell got cut short when Waq when he stopped a straight drive from Waq with his foot. He finished the over, but at the cost of a string of boundaries.

After that Rich played the crucial anchor role, adding 36 with Waq, 49 with Az, 27 with EJ and 41 with Saj. Runs came at a decent rate, but when it started to look like we might not bat the overs Bren slapped a quick 19. Most thought 220 wasn’t enough, but the stats say different. In Fillongley NVC games prior to this season the team batting first has made 200 plus fifty times. On 46 of these occasions that team has won! Key was to bowl tight at the start, and both Jack and Daud did the job.

At the end of their spells Pelsall were behind the rate, and crucially their main man (140 the day before) was back in the pavilion attending to his bad foot. Numbers 5 and 6 scratched about, and Pelsall were soon in real trouble at 92-6. Wale and Pennell added 61 then Wale nicked the last ball of a really good spell from Saj. Still nearly 70 required quickly, so the game was nearly in the bag. Problem is I thought that in the last game, and it ended up going to the wire.

This time Waq broke the stubborn 8th wicket partnership, and saw off 10 and 11 to complete a hat trick. A perfect end to a fantastic day. Congratulations to all.

The 2010 team did fantastic things, but were rabbits caught in the headlights in the semi.

No fear this time!
