Back to winning ways again

Fillongley hosted RMCC at the parks on a humid afternoon. Waq won the toss and stuck the opposition in as batting first had not gone well on Saturdays this year for some reason.

The visitors managed to scratch their way to 204, probably 40 runs too many with the position we had them in. Daud and Macca took 3 apiece on a batting track and the left over Dukes ball from last year is most definitely a better ball than what we have been playing with on a Saturday.

After a splendid jacket spuds 🥔 tea, Franksie and Carty strode to the middle and when Carty dispatched the second ball of the innings for four runs, it looked like back to business. Franks started more cautiously at the other end looking to play himself in. Carty was soon out to one that jagged back up the hill which brought the out of touch Skelding to the crease. Sam didn’t get many and was bowled after scoring two. Blackmore and franks looked to rebuild and both looked in fine touch, stroking the bad ball to the boundary and sneaking quick singles to rotate the strike. Aaron was next to go after a well made 27 as he tried to launch the spinner into the middle of next week. Still, he played well under pressure and it’s good to see a senior player starting to find his rhythm with the bat. The partnership which broke the back began as DJ looked to be positive from ball one while Franksie had also decided to press the accelerator. There were some nervous moments against the league but after he had been negotiated, Jakeman and franks opened up against the seamers. Franks brought up a well made 50 and Dj soon followed.

The score had now reached 170 before Franksie departed. The last 25 runs were a formality for Dj and waq as they won at a canter.

David finished on a sublime 72* and reminded us and indeed himself he is a class act who just needs to spend some time at the wicket before he gets going. His innings had every shot in the book and it was encouraging to see yet another young player making a mark on the game and taking responsibility in an important game.

A good win which should give us the confidence of playing well against top of the league Moseley Ashfield next week.
